A lot can happen in a week.
What started out as a pandemic passtime for Florida teen Jack Sweeney — tracking 16 of his favorite high-profile people and planes, including Elon Musk’s private jet, on Twitter — has become an international viral news story. He’s gained over 235,000 followers across his flight tracker and personal Twitter accounts. But now, Musk, who had been chatting with Sweeney off and on for a month and a half, blocked him on Twitter this week. In a video published by The Guardian, Sweeney couldn’t help but smile about the development.
When asked about his newfound internet fame, his response was nonchalant. “It’s interesting but kinda to be expected,” he told Protocol in a Twitter DM on Wednesday. “Elon Musk, 19-year-old, tracking his jet … some people don’t even know how it’s so readily possible, so I get it.”
Now Sweeney is trying to build on the momentum of his overnight fame. He’s looking for developers to work with, while a Discord he created back in September is growing. And perhaps the best is yet to come: a new development, “from someone other than Elon” is on the horizon, he said.
